Construction and working in the built environment has been at the heart of my family’s dinner conversations throughout my life. My father works in the industry, which sparked my own interest, and it was clear I wanted to pursue a career in construction from an early age.
I was fortunate to land a place on a trainee scheme, enabling me to undertake a BSc Honours in Surveying course part-time at London South Bank University. When I wasn’t studying, I was working on site and gaining invaluable experience, equipping me with the right skills and knowledge to help further my career.
In my role as a commercial manager at ISG, I’m responsible for all of the financial aspects of the project, 1 Mabledon Place. A typical day consists of managing the change control process, updating cash flow and cost-value reconciliation reports, and attending meetings with subcontractors and the client teams. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, so the challenge in trying to create financially successful outcomes is what drives me every day. Manging the control process can be a challenge, but the reward of seeing a happy client, while still achieving internal targets, is always worth it.
I have been with ISG for over a year, and I still feel like I am learning difference aspects of the business on a weekly basis. However, what remains consistent is the true dedication and passion employees have for our work, and there is always opportunity to further develop and grow your skills.
One area of opportunity at ISG is the Futures Group, and I’m fortunate to be a part of this year’s cohort. The Futures Group is a forum where I can develop my technical and people skills, and provides a rare opportunity to interact and work with senior management, learning from their experiences within the industry.
